Sometimes I am asked as a so-called 'self-help' publisher, why do I never - or rarely - publish slimming titles. The reason is simple: the market place is flooded with such titles. everywhere one looks there is somebody declaring how to lose calories or expounding some new wonder dieting plan.
So there seems little point in Finbarr offering a subject which can be found anywhere.
Another point. I receive manuscripts daily from authors. Most I have to refuse, either because I don't believe their content is valuable or because I think they won't sell. And usually I have no interest in weight-loss plans, for the reason explained.
But when this manuscript landed on my desk I was struck by the title: 'LOSING WEIGHT WITHOUT A DIET'. Really?
You see, before I present to the public I have to first convince myself there is something to it.
Finbarr adverts are there to sway the reader. BUT FIRST THE AUTHOR HAS TO SWAY OR CONVINCE ME.
I am aware that not every title Finbarr offers will work for everyone: but what I cannot tolerate is being asked to publish something which I personally doubt will work for anyone.
